Why Planning Beats Vibe Coding

It would be amazing if you could ask an AI agent to build an entire project in one go, step away, and come back to a finished product. In reality, at least right now, that's not how it works.

Teams and individuals successfully building products with AI aren't vibe coding and hoping for the best. They're spending time planning up front, setting guardrails as they go, and keeping a close eye on what the AI is producing as it goes to further refine the cycle until it almost feels like magic.

If you take the time to think through what your product should actually do (and shouldn't do), the results are dramatically better. That means defining the core outcome, setting clear constraints, feeding the AI as much useful context as possible, and even producing rough wireframes or flows before a line of code gets written. It also means stress-testing your plan: what happens if this fails, what are the edge cases, what parts are still unclear?

✨ Do the work up front, and everything that follows becomes much easier.

Every back-and-forth with an AI agent costs time and money. If you're constantly refining features directly in code, undoing things, and rewriting large sections because the original plan wasn't clear, those costs stack up quickly.

More planning at the start usually means far less time, and far less money, spent later.
